Passenger Dies on Lufthansa Flight

Passenger dies on Lufthansa flight after blood erupts from his mouth and nose

A 63-year-old German man died in a horrifying incident on a Lufthansa flight from Bangkok to Germany on Thursday, when blood suddenly poured out of his mouth and nose and splattered all over the walls of the plane.

The man appeared unwell before boarding the flight

The man, who has not been named, was travelling with his wife and showed signs of illness before getting on the flight just before midnight. He had cold sweats and breathing difficulties, but his wife claimed they were due to them having to rush to catch the flight.

However, Karin Missfelder, a nursing specialist at University Hospital in Zurich who witnessed the tragedy, said she knew his condition was more serious. She later told the crew that a doctor would be needed to assess him.

Blood shot out from his body after drinking chamomile tea

The cabin crew tried to soothe the man’s condition with some chamomile tea, but as he drank it, blood suddenly erupted out of his mouth and nose. Martin Missfelder, Karin’s husband, said the scene was “absolute horror” and everyone was screaming.

The crew and a young Polish doctor who volunteered to help performed CPR on the man for about 30 minutes, but it was too late. The captain announced that the passenger had died and the flight had to return to Thailand.

The body was taken to the galley and the flight was diverted

The crew moved the body to the galley of the plane and covered it with a blanket. The flight was diverted to Phuket, where the authorities took over the case. The passengers were transferred to another flight to Germany, which departed after a few hours.

Karin said she regretted not intervening more, but she saw that a doctor was looking after him. She also questioned why the flight took off in the first place, given the man’s poor health.

Lufthansa expressed condolences and regretted the inconvenience

A Lufthansa spokesperson said: “Although immediate and comprehensive first aid measures were taken by the crew and a doctor on board, the passenger died during the flight. Our thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased passenger. We also regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers of this flight.”

The spokesperson did not reveal the cause of death or any details about the man’s medical history. It is not clear if he had any pre-existing conditions or if he contracted any diseases during his stay in Thailand.
